How To Lose Winter Weight | On The Mountain Bike And In The Gym

How to Make Your First Bike MS 150 Ride Awesome | Bicycling

– Welcome back, you beautiful people. Yes, you’ve come to the right place to help burn that excess weight. But there’s a tonne of ways to shift all that weight. You can go super hard in the gym or you can be the outdoory guy or girl and love to spend time on your bike. Here are a few ways I like to train.

Let me take you through it. (upbeat music) Aha! Right, outside, super windy, muddy, wet, it’s raining, and probably where you are, it’s snowing. So you can’t get your bike out, it’s not very motivating, and you want to keep fit through those winter months or you want to burn some weight. For me, I love to go to the gym in the wintertime because it gets me out of the house, keeps me off the couch, keeps me out of the fridge, as well. There’s a number of machines in the gym that you can work out on to burn that weight and to keep fit, as well.

But before we look at all those good machines to work out on, you’re gonna look at your diet, you’re gonna make sure you lay off the treats, lay off the alcohol, because I, I like a good beer or two in the evenings, but it’s not gonna help your weight, and all that processed food, as well, just take away as much, just try and cut all that down. It’s all about eating good veg, good foods, and good keeping those calories down. You’re on the road to losing weight and becoming fitter. Right, you love riding bikes, I love riding bikes. Like we said, the weather outside is not in your favour, so you’ve gone to the gym, you’re gonna find one of these, the static bike, and these are a great thing to use.

I use it, I go to the gym, I sit on this, especially when the weather’s all rubbish. Sit on it for a bit, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, an hour, and you get off and you feel like you’ve done a good workout, but what I do with these is I do interval training on them, and what I mean by interval training is you push hard for a few minutes, and then you start, you don’t stop, but you relax, then you push hard again for a few minutes, then you relax. You do that probably three or four or five times, as many times as you want until you feel absolutely shattered and you get off and you feel like you’ve done a good workout.

Right, this is the rowing machine, and to be honest, I use this thing more than the static bike because it gives you a full body workout, upper and lower. It’s a great cardio machine, and I set it at 2,000 metres, and I go as hard as I can to get to seven minutes. It’s super hard to get to seven.

I’ve gone up to 7:14, but that’s just a personal goal. But you can set it up with just rowing, you can go 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, as long as you want, but it’s a great machine. It’s full body, and it’s good.

Right, moving on from the static bike, the rowing machine, now it’s the running machine. These are three of the favourite machines that I do use in the gym to help with my cardio strength, keep down the weight in those winter months, and help me keep my strength, as well, for the up and coming season, but apart from these three, there’s a lot of other machines around the gym that can build on just core strength, so not cardio, get my upper body a bit more strength and my lower body, as well, for that season coming. Just remember what Muhammad Ali said. “Champions aren’t made in the gym. “Champions have something that is deep inside of them… “a desire, a dream, a vision.” He said it.

I’m going for it. Right, if you’re not one for the gym, then spending your time in the saddle is a great way to keep fit. So here are a few that I tend to use. Okay, so you braved the weather, you’ve gone out there, you’re on your bike.

You don’t care about the mud, the rain, the wind, and I found a great way to do some training on my bike, and that’s interval training. I’m pretty new to it. Mr. Neil Donahue taught me this.

You don’t care about the mud, the rain, the wind, and I found a great way to do some training on my bike, and that’s interval training. I’m pretty new to it. Mr. Neil Donahue taught me this.

So what I mean by interval training is that you push hard for a certain amount of time, and then you relax for three minutes to gain your breath back, and then you push hard again, as hard as you possibly can for an amount of time, and then you relax. By this time, you’re pretty dead, and you repeat it constantly, and that’s a great way to burn calories and to lose weight. Plus, you’re getting fitter in a quick way. But interval training can get super boring for me because I know you can do it on the fire roads, so you’re pushin’, and then you’re relaxing, then you’re pushin’ again, then you’re relaxing, then you’re pushing, and then you chill out.

It gets a little bit boring for me, but here, at this bike park I’m at, Wind Hill, you can just, it’s pretty good because you can shred down the trail, and that’s my relaxing. You can just have fun, then when you’re coming back up, you’re pushing hard to get to the top, and when you get to the top, you can chill and then ride back down and do it again, but then the fire road gets a little bit boring, so what I like to do is I find a technical section of a climb where I can push myself through a tech section. It makes it more interesting, it keeps my, all of my upper body strength going as well, ’cause you’re trying to fight your way through some trees, and that’s a great way to keep it all more interesting and fun.

This is key. I love doing this. Havin’ a b point, so when you’ve gone for an extra long ride, you’re gonna have to turn around and come back home, so by having that turnaround point, why not have it at a pub or a coffee shop or a cafe, grab yourself a coffee, maybe a cake, but you’re trying to lose weight, so grab yourself a coffee, refresh yourself, get more energy for your peddle back home.

I like doing it. I’m going to my favourite place. Right, hope these tips have helped you get super motivated to get out there on your bike or to your local gym to burn a little bit more fat off yourself or to get a little bit more fitter for the season coming, because winter does not last forever, trust me.
